Sustainability and Greek Tourism
The Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) is committed to promote the sustainable transition of the tourism sector with a long-term perspective. To this end, SETE is placing sustainability at the core of its strategy.
SETE’s commitment to sustainability is aligned with the Confederation’s objectives to:
- Create added value, inform, educate, and lead, with specific tools and initiatives that contribute tangibly to the sustainability transformation of the Greek tourism enterprises,
- Promote and showcase best practices of the tourism sector at large and its fields, for Society, Environment and Economy,
- Participate in policies that are connected to the tourism sector and the management of destinations, promoting best practices and benchmarks for sustainable development and the harmonization of the sector with the UN SDGs.
In this framework, the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) has been a participant of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Network Greece since September 2023. In the period 2022 -2023, SETE – aligned with the GRI principles – having realized its first materiality analysis and stakeholder mapping, has connected its strategy and action plans for the next years with the following UN SDGs:

SETE’s strategy and initiatives for the next years will focus on 5 key pillars, which are directly related to the National Strategy Tourism I Action Plans 2030
- Investments and competitiveness,
- Infrastructures,
- Destination Management,
- Labor issues and
- Sustainability.
The UN Global Compact is a call for businesses and institutions, to align their strategies and operations with ten universal principles related to human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. SETE became a participant of the UN Global Compact in September 2023, committing to implementing, disclosing information, and promoting the Ten Principles, while undertaking actions to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
