Since the first Electra hotel opened back in 1965, Electra Hotels and Resorts’ history has been one of warm, luxurious hospitality services. 1965: The first Electra hotel opens – the Electra Hotel Athens, at Ermou Street, in the center of the Greek capital. Since then it has been, and still is, a favorite amongst business and leisure travelers, gaining loyal friends every year!
1969: Capitalizing on the success of the Electra Athens, the Electra family expands its operations and takes over the management of the Creta Beach Hotel & Bungalows in Heraklion, Crete. Following 26 successful years of operation the Electra Hotels & resorts decided to give up the management of the subject hotel.
1972: At Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, a second property is added to the Electra Hotels and Resorts portfolio. The celebrated Electra Palace Thessaloniki, beautiful and imposing, with its classic decoration and breathtaking views, opens its gates in the famous Aristotelous Square to host guests from all over the world, bringing the Electra experience to Thessaloniki’s visitors. Since then it has become a favorite landmark and a point of reference for the city of Thessaloniki.
1973: The second Electra in Athens opens for the public. With its classic architecture that blends seamlessly with Plaka’s charming buildings, the Electra Palace Athens is immediately recognized as a beautiful addition to the historical quarter. Its stately luxury, lavish amenities and Acropolis views quickly made this hotel stand out of the competition, gaining loyal friends.
1975: Ten years after the first Electra opened, a brand-new resort is added to the Electra Hotels and Resorts portfolio. At Rhodes, one of Greece’s most popular destinations, the Electra Palace Rhodes receives the first of its many, many guests. Featuring spacious rooms, ample outdoor spaces and of course, the Electra hospitality, it quickly becomes a beloved summer destination for holidaymakers from around the world!
2016: The “Electra Metropolis” is a brand new 5 star hotel in the heart of the city. It is situated at the beginning of Mitropoleos Street next to Syntagma Square, the most famous square in Greece, and has been welcoming business travellers and holiday makers to Athens since September 2016. This new jewel of Athens is founded on the values of “Electra Hotels & Resorts” and has 216 luxurious and fully equipped suites and rooms with views of the Acropolis and the old neighbourhood of Plaka. There is also an impressive atrium in the centre of the hotel which is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, the spa and also conference rooms, meeting rooms and lecture rooms which make the hotel one of the best venues in Athens for hosting corporate events in Athens. The hotel also has a unique Roof Garden with a spectacular view of the Parthenon and the entire city. The building was designed by the famous architect Patroklos Karantinos and was, for many years, home to the Ministry of Education. However, it has now been transformed into one of the best hotels in Athens, and this enticing example of Retro Chic style has made its mark on modern Athens and is now a trailblazing example of today’s interior architecture and design!
