António Abrantes was born in Argentina, he is 60 years old, and has more than 35 years of experience in the Travel and Tourism sector.
During his career he had a strong and diverse involvement in tourism sector.
He began his professional activity in 1980 in ENATUR, EP – National Company for Tourism, where he served as technical functions of Planning and Control (1980-1983) and Head of Financial Services (1983-1985).
He was Advisor and Chief of Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Tourism (1985-1990).
He was Director of Planning (1990-1992) and Director of Planning and Business Development (1992-1997) at ESTA Hotels Management portuguese internacional enterprise.
He was Coordinator of ESF Measure for Portuguese Tourism Professionals Training in 1997 and 1998.
He was General Secretary of the CTP – Portuguese Confederation of Tourism (1998-2007), dome structure of the business association of Portuguese tourism, with representations in national and international organizations. He has the same role since February 2015.
He was Coordinator of the Technical Team of AMVC – Association of Municipalities of the Côa Valley (2008-2010) and he was responsible for design of the Collective Efficiency Strategy Action Plan for the Development of Tourism and Prehistoric Rock Art Sites in the Côa Valley (World Heritage site of UNESCO).
2. Academic Functions
He has a degree in Business Administration (1975-1980), Master of Tourism (2012) and obtained the title of Specialist in Tourism and Leisure in 2013.
He teaches at higher tourism courses in the areas of tourism economy, tourism policy, tourism legislation and management of tourism businesses. He has published several books on tourism.
He writes articles in matters of tourism in general and specialty media, having published more than seventy articles.
